About the Artist
My first introduction to felt was as a child visiting my grandparents in Norway where nearly everyone had a pair of felt boots. When a Danish friend was visiting over 30 years ago, she taught me how to make a pair of felt slippers. From that point on, felt became a focus for me. I have had a 34 year involvement with felt making including writing instruction books on wet and needle felting and designing felt making craft kits for children and adults. In addition to working with a variety of different companies developing felt making techniques and machines to serve their purposes, I also make handmade felt garments and accessories in addition to hand felted wall hangings, sculptures and other felted objects. I have received numerous awards for my work including the Juror’s Choice Award for “Best Body of Work” at the Uncommon Threads Art-to-Wear Fashion Show in Illinois in 2012. In 2014 I was one of five invited artists at the “Fiber Innovations” exhibit at the Parker Arts and Events Center in Parker, Colorado where I had three handmade felt wall hangings. My hand made felt wall hanging in the “Fiber Rocks!” exhibit received First Place for “Theme”. My husband, Don and I live in Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico, and manage the FeltCrafts® business that provides felt makers with tools and machines for felt making.
