"I explore the mystery and complexity I experience in the world, making rich layered abstract paintings, with color and shape my primary focus, and creating small bronzes nudes that express the ever varied human form."

Painter and sculptor Marianne Hornbuckle's vital engagement with her two very different forms of artistic expression is the result of her desire to fully explore and express the extent of her creative abilities, to stay interested and fresh as an artist, and as an individual. She has created substantial bodies of work in both genres, finding the rhythms of their processes a foil for one another.

Hornbuckle exploits the properties of contemporary acrylic paints, using the different viscosities of gels and mediums to make complex surfaces that are alternately transparent, translucent and opaque, with mysterious color created by layering complimentary colors to create new colors. She rarely uses a brush, preferring to drag the paint with various other tools.

She creates classic contemporary sculptures from life,  capturing the unique essence and particulars of her subjects.

Marco A. Oviedo, Oviedo Carvings & Bronze - Chimayó, NM

Oviedo Carvings and Bronze Gallery features the work of Marco A. Oviedo who is a visionary woodcarver/sculptor who lives and works in Chimayó, New Mexico. The piñon-juniper dotted foothills of historic Chimayo provide the perfect backdrop for the traditional woodcarving and unique contemporary bronze sculpture that Marco produces. Since the late seventies he has interpreted New Mexico religious folk art styles and southwest designs in his creations.

The gallery setting is an all-adobe house designed and built in the New Mexico vernacular style, set on top of hills known as La Centinela. In the 18th and 19th century, these hills served as a sentinel for the outlying communities in to watch for raiders of their crops and livestock. The view of the surrounding landscape is breathtaking as you look at often snow-capped mountains on one horizon, natural sculptures of wind and water eroded hills to the north, and at the right time of the day a beautiful New Mexico sunset on the western horizon.

Part of the uniqueness for visitors to this site is its incorporation with the breeding farm of Heritage breeds of livestock that Marco and his wife Pat operate. Heritage breeds of animals include the Mammoth Donkey, the Spanish Colonial Horse and Churro Sheep. Also on the property is Marco’s personal workshop and foundry, where you can get a first-hand view of the process on how your sculpture or woodcarving is made.

Oviedo Carvings & Bronze Gallery is open as visitors come during the day between 10am and 6 pm. A big dinner bell that you ring when you arrive is near the entrance door to bring us to the door from anywhere we might be on the property. Come visit—you will have a memorable encounter.

“I am always looking for new challenges. I am not looking for a particular style. I think that can be very limiting. There is always more to learn about structure, form, the use of color, lost and found edges, and light and shadow.
Each painting or sculpture brings new challenges and new ways of seeing, opening new horizons.

Mark White

Mark grew up in Centralia, Illinois. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Southern Illinois University. His graduate work includes studies in sociology and art. During his post graduate work, Mark was able to study under sculptors Lincoln Fox and Valentin Okorokov; master patineur, Patrick Kipper; and painter, Albert Handel.

In addition to the meditative and mesmerizing kinetic wind sculptures for which he is so well-known, Mark White is a prodigious painter. He works in many mediums, including engravings on metal, oil on panel, and oil on metal. His metal pieces, on copper, aluminum and stainless steel, are engraved on the surface to reflect light like a three-dimensional object. Clouds appear to be sculpted rather than just painted, and the patterns of light change as the viewer moves.
