Every piece is entirely hand-made, from the melting of metal to direct fabrication in sheet or wire, techniques involve hollow construction and fabrication, with a hand-scratched texture, heat, black and stained patina finishes.

Plein Air Pastels

Wherever you go, your heart goes with you. Walk around and smell the air, listen to the trees or rocks. Ask yourself what pulls your heart to sit at this particular spot. Is it the light, the patterns or just that it makes you happy? Then pick up your pastels and begin to paint.

What happens is always a conversation between you and the landscape. In pastel, you have 10 brushes (10 fingers) so it's great to see what they can do. The end result is always a surprise. As an artist, I am the last to know what will happen. At its best, you become so much a part of the landscape that you disappear. I like the adventure.

When I see my finished pieces, I remember the heat on the rocks and the sound of the bees on the wild roses - it's all inside the painting.

I mainly work in leather for my bracelets. I became inspired by beautiful European leathers. Most bracelets have magnetic clasps . I have many different designs to choose from and assorted sizes.

• Deborah's art training began in Riverside, California. The young artist was introduced to scientific and naturalist illustrator, Karoly Fogassy, who provided her with private instruction and mentored her through her apprenticeship. He taught her how a professional uses pen, pencil and paint, how to observe and interpret.

• Professionally Deborah’s career began as a scientific illustrator. Wildlife provided the main themes for her studio work, gaining commissions from the American Bass Association, Save the Seal Foundation and participating in National Audubon exhibitions. Juried exhibitions include the Western Spirit Art Show and Vandewark Miniature Show in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Deborah received her BFA from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

• Today, she lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with her husband. The wondrous New Mexico light and southwest setting provide the inspiration and opportunity to capture the images she loves in the western setting that is her heritage.

Rena has lived and worked in Santa Fe for over 40 years. Her work is currently featured for sale in her studio (by appointment only) as she prefers not to show in galleries.
